week one
where do i begin? i’m here. i think the moment of shock came when i was getting on my flight at heathrow and i looked around to see who was on my flight. then it struck me. i’m really going to ghana. 6 hours later, I was greeted by humid weather and two brothers from Pioneers, David, the director of Pioneers Ghana, and Bright, the ever so quiet but faithful driver.
i’m staying in a home with a lady named Auntie Charlotte in East Legon, which is 5 mins. away from the Pioneers headquarters. i have had these past 5 days to acclimate to the weather conditions, surroundings, and food. so far, so good. i received my itinerary for the trip:
April 7- April 18: BANDA
April 18- April 23: ACCRA
April 23- April 30: TUMU
April 30- May 7: BANDA
May 7- May 12: EJURA
May 12- May 17: NEW EBU
May 17- May 19: ACCRA
i’m back in Accra for 5 days because Pioneers is holding a training conference for all the missionaries in Pioneers Africa. i get to meet our brothers and sisters from all over Africa! this is very exciting!
Easter was spent at a church called Akwauapim Interdenominational Church, the Pastor spoke poetically with this one phrase,” it’s Friday, but Sunday’s coming” i realized that i live my life with a lot of burdens and heaviness because of my worries and fears (friday) and i don’t live my life in Jesus’ resurrection (sunday). i don’t live like sunday has come. i strive to live like Jesus did, but i have never really thought about living in His resurrection. i want to live like He’s already won and i believe those that don’t know Him need to witness His victory.
because it was Easter, everyone was on holiday until monday. David, Auntie Tish, and Auntie Lydia decided to go visit Auntie Liz, who was a Pioneer missionary until we she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She had surgery more than 10 years ago, which left her blind. But from what they share, she was still encouraging and active in ministering to others with her incredible knowledge of the bible by reciting it verbatim to those around her.
her conditioned has worsened as of late and she is near her last days. she can’t sit up anymore. it was difficult for her to stay coherent as Auntie Tish and Auntie Lydia conversed with her. at one point, we were talking amongst each other about what a miracle it is that she has even made it this far…and she quietly chimed in and said, “if God wants me to live until i’m 70, then i will live until 70.” her passion and determination to live for God amazed me. it humbled me to think that a woman who is obviously unable to do so much can still live for God within her capacity.
as we were leaving, she held fast to the sisters in front of her and encouraged us with this verse from Revelations 22:12 ” Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done.”

we leave tonight for Banda on an overnight bus. it will take about 8 hours. please pray for our safe travels.
right now, i just want to be still and know that He is God.
